How it all started

The first soundwave I made was abstract. I wanted something musically inspired, yet rustic, for my dining room wall. From a young age I was mesmerized with my parents receiver that digitally displayed the volume as it changed within a song. Knowing you can visualize sound, I googled “waveform” and aligned wood pieces to mimic what I saw. Not long after I started creating custom waves based on audio.

Fueled by her love of music and creative spirit, Kathleen Mordecai designs re-purposed wood sound waves out of her studio in Chicago. These visual representations of sound spark joy for artist and customer alike.

The Career Shift

After my mothers passing in 2016 I decided to take a chance, quit my career in catering (that I loved) and put my whole self into making soundwaves. Creating has always been healing for me. If even a fraction of that healing energy is transferred to a customer when they receive their wave, my passion will have meaning.

As Seen on HGTV 50K Three Ways

I was delighted to be featured on the show 50K Three Ways filmed in Chicago. I was commissioned to create a soundwave based on the home owners children’s voices. Being able to see their reaction to the finished product was the best part!
